How do I add a trip?

Tap New trip (or Check a flight the first time). Pick your departure and arrival airports (search by airport code, city or name; the search works offline), the date (from today up to 15 days ahead) and your departure time. The time is the local time at the departure airport, and the app shows which time zone it is using. Cruising altitude starts at the usual level for jets; if you don’t know yours, leave it as it is. You can also type your flight number and date and tap Find flight: the app shows the flight it found and, once you confirm it, fills in the airports and time (you can still change anything). The forecast follows the most direct path between the two airports, so your actual route may differ a little.

With Pro you can Add a connection and see one forecast per flight or the whole trip.

Why should I download before boarding?

The forecast is built from weather data downloaded over the internet. Once you are in the air without Wi-Fi, the app can’t download anything new, so open your trip before you board. When it says Ready for airplane mode, the forecast is saved on your phone (free: the overall rating; Pro: the full forecast).

Opening it again shortly before boarding gets you the latest data. If an official thunderstorm advisory touches your route and you leave within 3 hours, the app shows Update before you board, because those advisories usually last about 2 hours.

Does it work in airplane mode?

Yes. Saved forecasts, the G-meter, breathing, the turbulence scale and the facts all work without a connection. In-flight mode (Pro) can use GPS: it may work in airplane mode on your iPhone, and if there’s no position, the app estimates where you are from your departure time.

What do the levels mean?

The descriptions come from the FAA’s official turbulence scale (Aeronautical Information Manual, Turbulence Reporting Criteria Table, 7-1-21), in plain words:

  • SmoothBumps are unlikely here. Small movements can still happen. (Evenflight’s own label for stretches with no bumps expected.)
  • Light bumpsYou may feel a slight pull against your seat belt. Loose items may shift a little. Drinks can still be served and walking is easy.
  • ModerateYou feel a definite pull against your seat belt. Loose items move. Serving drinks and walking get difficult. The plane stays under control the whole time.
  • StrongYou’re pushed hard against your seat belt. Loose items get tossed about. Service and walking stop.

We say “Strong” for what pilots call “Severe”. We only ever call it possible, never forecast. The overall rating for your flight is one of Smooth, Mostly smooth, Some bumps or Bumpy at times.

Why do climb and descent show official advisories?

Below about 11,500 ft, around takeoff and landing, bumps aren’t forecast by this method. For those minutes the app points you to the official advisories and pilot reports from NOAA’s Aviation Weather Center instead of guessing. Between about 11,500 and 25,000 ft the ratings are only a rough guide, and the app marks them that way.

How accurate is it?

We tested the ratings against real pilot reports they had never seen. At cruising altitude, they told bumpy spots from smooth ones correctly about 3 times in 4. That’s a measure of likelihood, not a promise for any single moment. The test used U.S. reports from September 2026.

Limits: below about 11,500 ft there is no forecast; between 11,500 and 25,000 ft it is only a rough guide; in thunderstorm areas the index is less reliable, so the official advisory comes first; and the route is the most direct path, not your airline’s exact one. Turbulence can always happen without warning, so keep your seat belt fastened when seated.

Why did I get an alert late, or not at all?

Alerts when a saved forecast changes (Pro) depend on background checks, and your iPhone decides when those run. An alert can come late or not at all. Open the app before boarding for the latest. In the app’s settings you can see when the last background check ran.

How do I restore my purchase?

In the app’s settings, tap Restore purchases (it’s also on the Pro screen). Make sure you are signed in with the same Apple Account you used to buy.

How do I cancel my subscription?

Subscriptions are billed and managed by Apple. On your iPhone (Apple’s steps):

  1. In Settings, tap your name.
  2. Tap Subscriptions.
  3. Tap the subscription.
  4. Tap Cancel Subscription. If there’s no Cancel button or you see an expiration message in red text, the subscription is already canceled.

You can also tap Manage subscription in the app’s settings. Cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the period to avoid the next renewal. The lifetime purchase is paid once and is not a subscription. Refunds are handled by Apple.

Do I need an account? What data do you collect?

No account, ever. Evenflight collects no data: no analytics, no ads, no tracking. Your trips and forecasts stay on your iPhone. Details in the Privacy Policy.
