Privacy Policy

Evenflight is an iPhone app made by Rafael Vásquez, an independent developer (“I”, “me”). This page explains, plainly, what happens to your information when you use it.

In short: Evenflight collects no data about you. There is no account, no analytics and no ads. I don't receive your trips, your location or anything else from the app; they stay on your iPhone. The only thing that goes to a server of mine is a flight number and date, and only if you choose to look one up.

What stays on your iPhone

Your trips (airports, dates and times), the forecasts you download and your settings are stored only on your device. They are not sent to me or to anyone else. Deleting the app deletes them. You can also delete downloaded forecasts at any time in the app's settings (“Delete downloaded forecasts”).

Weather data from NOAA

To make a forecast, the app connects directly to public U.S. government servers run by NOAA:

nomads.ncep.noaa.gov (NOMADS), for the Global Forecast System (GFS) weather model;
aviationweather.gov (NOAA's Aviation Weather Center), for official advisories and pilot reports.

These requests contain map areas and times for your route, not who you are. The app identifies itself only as “Evenflight/1.0”, with no user or device identifier. As with any website you visit, those servers see your device's IP address and basic connection details; how NOAA handles that is governed by NOAA's own policies. Apart from the optional flight-number lookup below, the app makes no other network connections of its own.

Flight-number lookup (optional)

If you type a flight number in New trip and tap “Find flight”, the app sends that flight number and the date to a small server I run on Cloudflare (a Cloudflare Worker). That server asks AeroDataBox, a flight-schedule data provider, for the published schedule and sends back the airports and times. AeroDataBox receives only the flight number and date, from Cloudflare: never your IP address or anything about you.

What my server keeps: (1) the flight schedule it found (flight number, airports, times and aircraft type) for up to 7 days, so the same flight can be answered again without a new request; it says nothing about who looked it up. (2) To stop abuse, a count of lookups per hour, stored under a one-way hash of your IP address plus the current hour (not the IP address itself) and deleted automatically after about an hour. There is no account, and nothing is linked to you or to your trips. The server keeps no request logs. Like any network provider, Cloudflare processes your IP address to deliver the request; see Cloudflare's Privacy Policy.

If you don't use flight-number lookup, none of this happens: you can always pick the airports yourself.

Location (optional)

In-flight mode can use your iPhone's location to show where you are on your route. The app asks for permission only when you open In-flight mode, and only “While Using the App”. Your location is used on your device, is never sent to me or to anyone, and is never tracked in the background. If you say no, In-flight mode still works by estimating from your departure time.

Motion sensor

The G-meter reads your iPhone's motion sensor to show what a bump measures. Those readings stay on the device and are not saved or sent anywhere.

Notifications

If you turn on alerts, the app checks your saved forecasts in the background (using the same NOAA servers) and shows a notification created on your iPhone if a rating changes. There is no push server and no notification data leaves your device.

Purchases

Subscriptions and the lifetime purchase are handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. I never see your name, email or payment details. The app only asks Apple whether this Apple Account has an active purchase. Apple's handling of your data is described in Apple's Privacy Policy.

Links and sharing

When you share a briefing, it goes only where you choose, through the iPhone share sheet. Links to sources (for example the FAA or eCFR) open in your browser, and those sites have their own privacy policies.

Email

If you write to support@evenflight.com, I receive your email address and your message. I use them only to answer you, and I don't share them with anyone.

Children

Evenflight collects no personal data from anyone, including children.

Changes

If this policy changes (for example, if a new feature needs to send data somewhere), I will update this page and its effective date before that version of the app is released.
